Spring is frequently thought of the primary time of year when people try to get organized wit the Fall season following a close second. Both are uniquely different and have different reasons as to why people try to organize these two times of the year. In the spring people take time to clean up, throw out the old stuff. The Fall is more the time when people put their stuff away for the long cold winter. You have to bring in patio furniture, store the lawn equipment and cover your pool bringing in that equipment.  as well. What is odd is that the months we are indoors the most we lack the most storage space. Chances are you’ve run out of room in both the garage and the basement if you are lucky enough to have one.

There is a very affordable and simple solution. The old shed, you know the old outbuildings that we had in our yards as kids are making a come back and solving garage storage and basement storage issues. Most are very affordable and actually save you money and time. Now of course some neighborhoods do have deed restrictions and you cannot have the shed to be over the size of your fence be we have found some here recently that can be under the fence line and invisible to the prying neighbors eye. You can pick a storage shed that matches your yard and if it is allowed to be in compliance with those pesky deed restrictions in your area.  

The first thing you have to decide is how large of a shed you need and how much of your yard you want to give up. Of course the wider the shed the more wall space and floor space you will have. You can also mount racks on the walls to store shovels and other items that make sense to keep in the shed. This out building needs to have all its space maximized. Use ceiling and wall hooks and racks to make sure you have enough room for all your items.

Storage sheds do come in a large selection of materials, including but not limited to wood, aluminum, steel and plastic. If you live where more severe weather is, you may want ot consider a plastic or metal shed where they are more likely to take that beating from the harsher storms. If you are no concerned about weather, the wood sheds make the nicer looking yard addition. The other more prolific issue with wood sheds is that rodents may seek shelter. If you live in a more wooded area you may want to consider that in your selection process. If you are in the south, keep in mind that metal sheds do tend to get very hot in the summer.  

On other decision that will need to be made is the type of flooring you want the shed to have. You may decide to outline a slab and mount the shed on concrete to make sure it doesn’t go anywhere. The best part of concrete is that it cleans easier and if oil from that mower drips it makes for very easy clean up. Remember to grade the foundation so that water can drain allowing for you to hose off that storage shed flooring.

A storage shed wil dramatically increase the garage storage space allowing you to bring your car in the garage in the winter as well as all the outside patio furniture and not need to compromise.
